Tres: Thank you all for getting involved and making these results happen!

November 2019

Today, President Donald Trump signed the first ever U.S. federal legislation to tackle animal cruelty and torture – the PACT Act. This is a historic victory, and you helped make it possible when you signed Sydney’s petition. Thank you!

To celebrate, let’s take a look back at how this all started:

Sydney Helfand, a Maryland teenager, loves animals. That’s why hearing stories of animal abuse horrified her. And learning there wasn’t a law on the books to protect animals from cruelty – that’s what drove her to take action.

July 2019

Following a decade-long Physicians Committee campaign, Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., announced that it ended live animal use in its Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) program, as well as in its emergency medicine residency program.

The final count is in: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has received 1.8 million comments opposing the Trump administration’s proposal to remove federal protection from gray wolves across most of the lower 48 states. This is the largest number of comments received by the feds on an Endangered Species Act issue in the law’s whole 45-year history. And 650,000 of those comments — a significant portion — came from Center for Biological Diversity supporters. More than 1,000 of you collected 53,000 handwritten comments from your communities at farmers markets, dog parks, on the street, and at events across the country. It’s been an incredible collective effort. Thank you.

Amazing news! Mayo Clinic in Rochester has finally stopped using live animals to train emergency medicine residents.

The Petition Site has some good news today:

Good news! One of the only two remaining animal circuses in South Africa has decided to withdraw a court case against NSPCA and pay all costs involved!
Brian Boswell Circus sued the NSPCA in 2016 claiming a huge loss of income due to the organisation speaking out against the circus’s use of animals in performances. Well done NSPCA you did the right thing and we are all behind you! These two pathetic circuses must go animal free!
Keep signing and sharing!!
