The Good, The Bad, and The Gussy
Thanks to all for the purrs and prayers for us Texans.
We’ve had one heck of a week!
The good for us was that we had power, water and no busted pipes!
Cat Mom was able to see some bluebirds for the first time in decades.
Cat Dad has a 4 wheel drive and was able to make trips
to the grocery stores for neighbors who needed supplies,
he was even able to track down some milk for the toddler next door.
The bad was that so many folks and animals suffered.
We had friends and coworkers with no power or water for days,
some with busted pipes that made their homes unliveable.
There was an internet outage at our house for a couple of days
until that service provider got power back.
And our feral Tom Gus was missing the first day of the freeze and storm.
We have a warmed shelter for him as well as food and water,
but he was missing.
On the second day, there was Gus at the door and
instead of putting a bowl of food out for him,
Cat Dad opened the door and invited him in
– and he came right in!
He did soft head bumps to Ozzie and a few others
then settled down to his dinner and fell asleep.
It is a risk bringing a feral Tom inside
but keep in mind that we’ve been
caretaking this old boy for almost 20 years.
We’ve tended his wounds, fed him meds and he does allow petting.
He has brought every wife of his as well as her kits
to our place for food and safety.
One time, we watched him help Miss Harriet carry her kittens
across the street and over the fence into our backyard.
He has also helped abandoned cats, male and female,
find food and safety in our backyard.
This Tom has a heart of gold, no doubt in my mind.
I know that he was building a clowder
and I felt so bad that we kept trapping and taking away his family.
So now he will retire inside with the beautiful clowder he created.
Has everything been calm and loving – Heck no!
There have been some whappy paws over territory and dominance,
but no blood has been drawn.
It will take time,
but we’re sure this old boy will settle in and be a part of the household.
Thanks again for sending the Power Of The Paw to Texas,
it sure made a difference to our family.
