Litter thankful
We heard about using horse bedding pellets
for cat litter on one of the cat blogs and decided to give it a try.
This is what it looks like when you open the bag.
And this is what it looks like when it gets damp.
It basically breaks down into a kind of sawdust.
Positives: No Dust!
No litter glitter being tracked all over.
Naturally neutralizes odors.
Is made from pine shavings and sawdust from lumber mills that otherwise would be thrown out.
Much better for landfills than clumping litter.
Basically earth friendly.
Only $5.99 for a 40 lb. bag.
Negatives: It takes a good while for the cats and their peeps to get used to.
My advice is to slowly incorporate it into litter boxes, don’t rush it.
Mix it in with your current litter
and slowly increase the pellets and decrease your current litter.
It has been over 2 months since we started
and it is well worth the headache of adjusting to this as an alternative litter.
A huge thanks to the cat blog FULL PAW for the recommendation – we couldn’t be happier!

I wonder why in the world a litter maker can’t incorporate that into standard litter?

I couldn’t get the cats to use a pellet type litter. And I didn’t have the patience to wait until they did. Glad this is working for you because it sure is cheaper!

That is a great idea. I know some use wood pellets, but those are pricey now. XO

They have it at Tractor Supply here, I’ll have to look into it. Thank you!

Wow, I’d never thought about using pellets.
Thanks for the tip, and you cannot beat that cost AND the fact that it’s earth-friendly.

Oh, a “must try” for us. Even tho we’ve only one kitty, with the dreadful, “industrial type, dark brown” carpet in our apartment we are inundated with litter-glitter all the time. Visible and hard on bare feet.
June has always adapted quickly when I’ve changed litter, but will follow your lead to go slow on this one … thanks for the paws up.

Tried to “copy” image of the bag, not allowed to do so. Would you kindly send LINK or suggestion on “where to buy” or order online … or LINK to where you read about it … thanks much, Ann

Wow, who would have guessed? Definitely something to look into!

As long as the cats use it … that’s what matters!
